How to get a job abroad from India, lawfully
Choose a country and a lawful route, get a job offer through a registered recruiting agent, a state government agency or the employer, then get the work permit and visa the destination country requires. Never travel on a tourist or visit visa to look for work.
Step by step
Choose a country and a route
Every country has its own work permit, and most have several routes. The country matcher sorts the twelve countries we cover by your qualification and where you live, and each country page shows what is open today.
Check that you fit
The eligibility check asks seven questions and gives you a result with the reasons straight away.
Get a job offer the lawful way
Through a recruiting agent registered with the Ministry of External Affairs (check its number on emigrate.gov.in), through a recruiting agency run by a state government, such as NORKA Roots or Overseas Development and Employment Promotion Consultants (ODEPC) in Kerala, or directly from an employer abroad. A registered agent may advertise a job only when it holds the employer’s demand letter and power of attorney.
The employer applies for the work permit
For the usual route in eleven of the twelve countries we cover, the employer starts the application, and you then apply for the visa or residence permit the country requires. Each country page says who applies and where you apply from India.
Emigration clearance, if your passport needs it
None of the countries we cover is on the Ministry of External Affairs’ list of countries that need emigration clearance for ECR passport holders. ECR and emigration clearance
Read the contract before you travel
Check the job, the pay and the terms in writing before you sign. Do not hand your passport or original documents to an agent.

How do I apply for jobs abroad from India?
Apply to an employer through a registered recruiting agent, a state government recruiting agency, or the employer directly. A registered agent advertises a job only when it holds the employer’s demand letter and power of attorney, so ask for the employer’s name and the job in writing.
Can I go abroad on a tourist visa and find a job there?
No. The Ministry of External Affairs reminds candidates that a tourist visa is not a work visa, and a Schengen short-stay visa does not let you work in Europe.
