Poland work permit: the process, step by step
The usual route from India is the work permit (type A) plus national D visa for work, in 7 steps. Who applies: your employer, then you. Official decision time: Work permit: not confirmed under the 2025 Act (the pre-2025 rule was 1 month, 2 months in complex cases). National visa: decided within 15 days of application, up to 30 days in justified cases.
What are the steps for a Poland work permit?
- 1
Employer applies for the work permit electronically on praca.gov.pl; applications filed any other way are left unconsidered.
- 2
Voivode (regional governor) issues the permit; the employer sends the original to the worker.
- 3
Worker registers the national work visa on e-Konsulat (choose India, national visa). Appointment dates at the VFS centre are given by electronic draw.
- 4
Worker fills the additional VFS application form and attends the chosen VFS centre in person on the assigned date.
- 5
Consul decides within 15 days (up to 30 days in justified cases). Appeal within 14 days of collecting the passport.
- 6
Before work starts: a written contract in a language the worker understands (a sworn Polish translation is kept), and the employer files a Polish copy on praca.gov.pl.
- 7
For a longer stay the worker can later apply in Poland for a temporary residence and work permit (see next route).

How do appointments work for Poland in India?
Embassy of Poland, New Delhi (Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi NCR, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh) and Consulate General of Poland, Mumbai (Andhra Pradesh, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andaman and Nicobar Islands). Applications are submitted in person at a VFS Global visa application centre (the embassy pages do not list the VFS cities).
Kerala residents fall under Mumbai. Since 26 June 2024 work visas are registered on e-Konsulat and appointment dates are allocated by electronic draw (New Delhi weekly, Mondays 10:00; Mumbai fortnightly, Thursdays 10:30); unsuccessful applicants stay in later draws until selected or the work permit expires. Apply no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 days before travel. The missions state they do not cooperate with travel agencies, employment agencies or visa agents, an intermediary gives no advantage, and the only fee is the consular fee (INR 21,120 for a national visa, table effective 1 Jan 2026).

Can an agent get you an appointment or a decision faster?
No. Not us, not anyone.
- Polish missions in India say they do not work with travel agencies, employment agencies or visa agents, that an intermediary gives no advantage, and that the only fee is the consular fee. Appointment dates come only from the electronic draw. We cannot get you a date or move you up the draw. gov.plchecked 24 Oct 2026
- The destination authorities decide every application. Anyone who offers to influence that is a reason to walk away.
