Czechia work permit: the process, step by step
The usual route from India is the Employee Card through the Qualified Worker Programme, in 7 steps. Who applies: your employer, then you. Official decision time: 60 days; 90 days in especially complicated cases or when the Labour Office gives a binding opinion.
What are the steps for a Czechia work permit?
- 1
Employer (operating in Czechia for at least 2 years, at least 6 employees, no tax or insurance debts) reports the vacancy to the Labour Office and agrees to the central register.
- 2
Employer applies to a guarantor (e.g. Chamber of Commerce, Confederation of Industry, CzechInvest) for inclusion in the programme; there is no legal entitlement.
- 3
The embassy tells the employer the date by which the worker must apply. The worker must not contact the embassy directly.
- 4
Worker submits the Employee Card application in person at the Embassy in New Delhi with the documents below.
- 5
Ministry of the Interior decides (60 days; 90 in complicated cases).
- 6
Worker travels; within 30 working days of arrival reports to the Ministry of the Interior, gives biometrics and receives the confirmation allowing work.
- 7
Employer reports the start of work to the Labour Office before the first day (since 1 Oct 2025).

How do appointments work for Czechia in India?
Embassy of the Czech Republic, New Delhi — Employee Cards only within government programmes.
'Applications for employee card can be submitted only within the governmental programs of economic migration.' Individual applicants cannot book; the embassy gives programme applicants their date through the employer. Indian police clearance comes from the Passport Office; Indian public documents need an apostille; translations must be by an official Czech translator (the embassy warns many authorisations expired on 1 Jan 2026 — check seznat.justice.cz); documents may not be older than 180 days.

Can an agent get you an appointment or a decision faster?
No. Not us, not anyone.
- Individual applicants cannot book. The embassy gives programme applicants their date through the employer, and the worker must not contact the embassy directly. No agent can add you to a programme; the employer applies to a guarantor. mzv.gov.czchecked 24 Oct 2026
- The destination authorities decide every application. Anyone who offers to influence that is a reason to walk away.
